Thermal Cameras
Unlike normal CCTV cameras that rely on lighting conditions, thermal cameras capture infrared radiation emitted by objects and convert temperature differences into visible images.
- Heat Signatures: The sensor records the intensity of the radiation and assigns it a value.
- Thermograms: These values are mapped to a color palette (like "Ironbow" or "Rainbow") to create a visual representation called a thermogram.
- Emissivity: Different materials emit heat differently. For example, a shiny metal surface might look "colder" than a wooden one even at the same temperature because it reflects heat rather than emitting it.
Infrared Camera
Infrared radiation sits just beyond visible red light on the electromagnetic spectrum. It is generally divided into three main categories based on wavelength:
- Near-Infrared (NIR): Closest to visible light. This is what standard "night vision" security cameras use. They require an IR illuminator (those glowing red dots) to "light up" the area with invisible light.
